Cloud Utilization & Efficiency (CUE) Index
A structured, scored assessment of whether your architecture, security, spend, and operations can actually support growth, paired with a 12-month roadmap to a stable, cost-efficient environment.
Each factor helps your business understand:
How well your environment survives failure and recovers
How exposed your access, data, and network controls are
How far your architecture scales before it breaks
How much of your cloud spend is waste

CUE Index
Delivered by consultants holding active cloud platform certifications, the CUE Index gives organizations a structured, scored view of how their cloud environment holds up under real growth and a prioritized roadmap to close the gaps before they become outages, breaches, or lost revenue. The CUE Index evaluates cloud readiness across five dimensions. The findings inform your 12-month roadmap to bring your infrastructure in line with where the business is headed.
Five Dimensions of Assessment
Every CUE engagement evaluates an organization's cloud environment across five interconnected dimensions. Each is scored independently, then combined into a composite readiness score used to determine the recommended engagement tier.
Expert guidance to evaluate software solutions, compare build vs. buy options, and optimize your development processes through strategic analysis and recommendations.

01 Reliability & Resilience
We assess whether the platform keeps running when something breaks, and whether it can absorb the next stage of growth without a rebuild. Most outages at growing companies trace back to infrastructure set up for an earlier version of the business, not to a single bad change. We look for tested evidence. Areas include High Availability, Multi-AZ / Multi-region design, Backup & Restore, Disaster Recovery, Fault Tolerance, Auto Scaling, Load Balancing, Capacity Planning, Service Quotas, and Business Continuity.
02 Security & Governance
We evaluate who can access what, how that access is controlled, and whether the environment can stand up to an audit or enterprise due diligence. AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud ship with sensible defaults, and many organizations mistake those defaults for a security program. We evaluate broader governance including Identity & Access Management, Least Privilege, Secrets Management, Network Security, Encryption, Logging & Auditability, Vulnerability Management, Compliance Readiness, Multi-account Governance, and Organizational Policies. Focus: Cloud governance.

03 Performance & Architecture
Using AWS Well-Architected, or similar, guidance, we assess whether your application and data architecture can carry the load and the product roadmap ahead of it. Architecture that works at current scale often fails quietly as volume grows, because the data model, service choices, and integration patterns were set for a smaller problem. Areas include Application Architecture, Data Architecture, Service Selection, Database Design, Event-driven Architecture, API Design, Caching, CDN, Multi-tenancy, and Performance Bottlenecks.
04 Cost Optimization
We evaluate what you spend on cloud, where it goes, and how well you can forecast it. Most cost problems come from spend no one can tie to a product, customer, or market. We measure what you run against what you need, and project what the right-sized environment will cost. Areas include Compute Optimization, Storage Optimization, Cost Allocation, Tagging Strategy, Reserved Capacity, Savings Plans, FinOps Practices, Forecasting, Cost Visibility, and Waste Detection.

05 Operational Excellence & Automation
We assess how changes move from a commit to production, how quickly problems are detected, and how reliably the team responds. Manual infrastructure changes and ad hoc deployments work until the team or the platform grows. Areas include Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, Monitoring, Observability, Incident Response, Change Management, Automation, Runbooks, SRE Practices, and Release Management.
Scoring Tiers
Each of the five dimensions is scored from 0 to 100. A composite score is calculated and mapped to one of three engagement tiers based on the findings from all five dimensions. The tier determines First Factory’s recommended next step thus ensuring you receive a path forward calibrated to where you actually are.

What You Receive
Every CUE engagement concludes with a structured set of deliverables designed for two audiences: the technical teams who will execute on recommendations, and the executive stakeholders who will fund them. All deliverables are produced by the same certified practitioners who conducted the assessment.

Delivered by Certified Practitioners
Every Cloud Utilization & Efficiency Index engagement is led by First Factory consultants holding active AWS Partner credentials and cloud platform certifications. Clients receive findings from practitioners who can also execute on them, not generalist account managers who hand off to a delivery team they've never met.
First Factory is a Select partner in the Claude Partner Network. We are also an AWS certified partner and are SOC2 Type 2 certified, meaning we hold ourselves to the same securitystandards we assess in your environment. This matters when we're reviewing your IAM configuration, your secrets management practices, or your data encryption posture. You can trust that we approach those areas with the same rigor we apply to our own operations.
