EMPLOYEE
NET PROMOTER SCORE
What is
eNPS?
The Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) takes its cue from the customer-facing Net Promoter Score (NPS). It was developed more than twenty years ago and is now a standard metric for companies. The NPS is calculated by measuring survey respondents’ ratings into promoters, passives, and detractors. Survey recipients answer two simple questions on a scale of zero to ten. Detractors are identified as those giving scores of zero through six, Passives are scores of seven and eight, and Promoters are nines and tens. The resulting score is derived by subtracting the percentage of detractors from the percentage of promoters.
Human Resources has leveraged the same survey format and directed those questions toward employees of a company. The result, an eNPS, provides insight into employee satisfaction and loyalty.
What is
a Good Score?
The eNPS results range from -100 to 100. Leading organizations deem that a score above zero is good or acceptable, while scores above fifty are considered excellent. There are many factors that influence a score, some internal such as benefits and work environemnt, others external such as market dynamics and business forecasts. Overall the score helps define if a company is transparent, supportive and strives to keep all employees valued and engaged.
In their 2022 blog post, “Employee Net Promoter Score: A Brief Guide,” Vantage Circle indicates that, “ a score of over 70 is deemed to be groundbreaking” and represents the top five percent of companies worldwide.
We use our HRIS, BambooHR, to manage the quarterly surveying of our employees and are proud of our results.
