First Factory was founded by Jason T. Roff in 2000. Creating an open, shareable workspace for software engineers was inspired by an Andy Warhol concept. His famous creative spaces, each referred to as “The Factory,” gave Jason a vision for the perfect work environment. Today, our culture drives creative and quality solutions. We're proud to be one of the leading nearshore software solutions providers in Costa Rica.
Nearshore - Costa Rica
Jason wanted to find the perfect location to base his software development company. He looked for a country that excelled in education and shared his values. It was essential to be closer to the US than the offshore business models. This is where Costa Rica came into play.
As a country that is proud of its education, Costa Rica boasts an impressive pool of engineers and software creators. It was seeing the dedication and drive of Costa Rican software engineers that solidified the decision. Jason opened our first development workspace in Heredia. Costa Rica's time zone (1 or 2 hours behind Eastern Time) and proximity (5 hour flight from NY) remain essential when choosing a software development partner.

First Factory started as a .NET development shop with four employees. The early years were spent differentiating ourselves from other software vendors. We developed our secret sauce in identifying, managing, and motivating talented engineers. As a result, we have built a strong reputation as one of the best employers in Costa Rica.
