In today’s hyper-connected world, it’s easy to fall into the trap of working constantly, neglecting to take breaks, and missing out on life’s other priorities. What many of us fail to realize is that taking breaks and detaching isn’t just about rest—it’s about opening ourselves up to inspiration and fostering creativity. At First Factory, we understand the significance of breaks in promoting overall well-being. We’ve cultivated a culture that values the importance of downtime and encourages employees to take regular breaks throughout the day and step away from the task at hand. In doing so, we come back refreshed and potentially with a different perspective for solving a problem. Creativity thrives in these moments of relaxation and leisure, where the mind is free to roam and explore new possibilities.
Stepping away from the computer screen allows our minds to wander, giving rise to new ideas and fresh insights. Moreover, engaging in hobbies outside of work is an integral part of teaching our minds to play, focus, and learn. Those experiences then enhance the work that we do, and this continues to feed our company culture. We believe that hobbies are not just pastimes but are essential outlets for self-expression and personal fulfillment. Whether it’s playing a musical instrument, painting, gardening, or participating in sports, we support each other in exploring our interests and pursuing our passions.
Besides promoting breaks during the workday, we’ve also designed our office space to facilitate relaxation and recreation. In our kitchen/lounge, employees can grab a beverage, enjoy a snack, or partake in monthly catered lunches. Our ping-pong table sees a lot of action, and we see many friendly competitions abound at the foosball table. And, of course, the battles continue with video games. We’ve created other designated areas for employees to unwind and recharge. Our monthly game nights further enhance the sense of camaraderie and fun, providing opportunities for our team to come together, bond, and destress after a busy workday. All of these activities allow us to unwind, connect with each other in different ways, and clear our minds to be ready for the next challenge.
So, the next time you feel overwhelmed or are stuck in a creative rut, remember the power of taking breaks. Step away from your desk, indulge in a favorite hobby, and let your imagination soar. Who knows what groundbreaking ideas you might uncover along the way?

Climbing has taught me the value of mental fortitude and community, while photography has allowed me to explore creativity and self-expression. I’ve learned valuable lessons about failure, the learning process, and balance through these activities, embracing their multifaceted nature and allowing them to shape my journey.
Maria Jose’s hobby: I’ve been doing Jewelry and Accessories Design for over 5 years. I love making my own accessories and my friends started to ask me to make them some, and it snowballed from there. I enjoy the endless possibilities to create a unique piece and capture people’s personalities through accessories. I am launching a new collection and love to use mixed media in my work.
